Blackmores Pregnancy and Breastfeeding Gold was formulated from research showing pregnant and breastfeeding women were mildly iodine deficient. In 2006 a study was completed on the Central Coast of NSW (Iodine Deficiency in Pregnant Women) and presented in the Medical Journal of Australia (MJA).
From the finding shown in this study, Blackmores produced Pregnancy and Breastfeeding Gold including 250 mcgs of iodine. This formulation has the correct daily intake of iodine to help prevent iodine deficiency in the mother and baby during this period.

Thyrogen (Thyrotropin alfa-rch) is a recombinant of human thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). It is used in thyroid cancer patients to help in the detection of thyroid cancer remaining after surgery to remove the thyroid gland. Thyrogen is also used in the ablation of any remaining Thyroid tissue in combination with radioactive iodine in post-thyroidectomy patients whilst on their thyroid replacement hormone therapy.

Bakers Delight has also supported The ATF’s BIG BREAKFAST since 2006, providing 2000 serves of bread for the delicious bacon, egg and/or spinach sandwiches served FREE to Sydneysiders on their way to work.
Bakers Delight now includes iodised salt in all bread production. Food Standards of Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ) will announce on 9 October 2009 the mandatory fortification of iodine into bread making to help overcome iodine deficiency throughout Australia.
