Thyroid cancer increase in NSW

Alarming statistics gathered by the Cancer Institute NSW show thyroid cancer is increasing in NSW.
Diagnosis of the disease in women has increased by 84 percent and 40 per cent in men.

The cause of the increase is attributed to factors such as iodine deficiency, radiation exposure, high-soy diets, and cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli and cauliflower.

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) is considering introducing mandatory salt iodisation in bread.

The ATF strongly support universal salt iodisation (USI) in Australia and New Zealand to improve the thyroid health of our population.

The ATF is the patient-support organisation on the FSANZ committee to discuss the reemergence of iodine deficiency.
