Nodules

Thyroid nodules are lumps in or on the thyroid gland. In most cases nodules will be benign, but one in 10 may be cancerous. Nodules may either be singular, or in clusters, often called a ‘multi-nodular goitre’.

Most nodules do not cause any symptoms, however they may cause pain in the throat area, swelling or difficulties with swallowing.

Your specialist doctor will examine you and tests will be carried out to evaluate the nodule(s). Nodules are usually unnoticeable, unless symptoms or signs develop. They are usually soft and fleshy in feeling.
