Hyperthyroidism
Hyperthyroidism occurs when the thyroid gland is overactive,and produces too much thyroid hormone, causing every function in the body to speed up. Hyperthyroidism may be caused by Graves’ disease, nodules, thyroiditis, or rarely by excessive iodine found in certain drugs given to elderly patients suffering from longstanding nodular goitres.
Symptoms include:
nervousness, irritability, anxiety, weight loss, muscular weakness, frequent bowel movements, more frequent menstrual periods and possibly heavy menstrual loss.
